Agniveer and the youth protest

The Govt of India announced the Agnipath program to recruit about 40000 Agniveers on a 4 years term in the triservice. The logic was to reduce the average age of frontline without addition any long term staffing cost. However, this hasn't gone down well with many aspirants who have started protesting and even destroyed public property. There are 2 relevant questions to think about here.

1. The temperament and character of a Soldier

Soldiers / Jawans deserve respect beyond any of us. They are indeed the true Heroes. However, it is never so black or white and we have had numerous cases of espionage, insubordination etc which obviously need to be addressed by the Armed forces.

However, do we really need rioters in the army? If they don't care of public safety and order, how do we expect them to protect our frontiers. We need an army with high morale and this message has to be clear to every aspirant.

2. Jobs, jobs, jobs...

The protest represent the frustration of the youth that is unable to find jobs and when their source of hope for a Govt job goes up in smoke, they protest. It is high time that there is radical overhaul of industry and we attract foreign investments. India is huge investments in labour training and associated jobs if we need to keep our youth employed.
